East Texas Anchor Project-36" Pipeline
Latest anchor
project includes a 36-inch pipeline located in east Texas. Work
included a soil survey that consisted of using a Cat 330 backhoe to
pull test anchors in areas requiring buoyancy control. Anchors were
installed on a spacing of 50-feet and pull tested at 12,000 lbs. per
anchor or 24,000 lbs. per set. The spacing of 50-feet eliminated 5
concrete set-on weights weighing 9,000 lbs. each. Since the
installed cost of set-on weights and auger anchors was approximately
the same, the cost savings using auger anchors was $4,000.00 per
anchor. This project required 320 auger anchors and saved the
pipeline company a total of $1,280,000.00.
In addition to the
cost savings, the pipeline company received a documented engineered
anchor system. As each anchor was installed, the anchor was pull
tested and this information was documented along with the station
number.
